Upgrading from a Prior Version of Linux for the PowerPC

The installation process for the Linux PPC Developers release includes the ability to upgrade from prior versions of Linux for the PowerPC. However, we do not recommend that you do this. The jump from existing systems, MkLinux DR3 and LinuxPPC R4, is large and could cause large problems. Specifically the new glibc is NOT compatable with the old glibc. Anything old will not work any longer. If you do attempt the upgrade, be warned...

Upgrading your system installs updated versions of the packages that are installed on your machine. The upgrade process preserves existing configuration files using a .rpmsave extension (e.g., sendmail.cf.rpmsave) and leaves a log telling what actions it took in /tmp/upgrade.log. As software evolves, configuration file formats can change, so you should carefully compare your original configuration files to the new files before integrating your changes.
