May 14, 1998 Here's a new kernel/server built by Anthony Tong (the same one who brought you virtual console switching in Xwindows). Assuming things go well, these patches will be in the next source drop. -- gc Here's the description: The Mklinux server (vmlinux) in this directory fixes the problem under X Windows of the display being disrupted whenever the first ppp connection is made. The message causing this has been disabled. The Mach Kernel (Mach_Kernel) in this directory addresses two problems. The first is that 16-bit color support on ATI graphics chipsets now functions properly. This results in the appropriate white on blue console as well as accurate colors now under X windows. The second fix is that write-caching is now enabled on the video console resulting in improved performance under X for such things as window drags in KDE. As usual, the Mach_Kernel replaces the Mach Kernel in the Extensions folder, (don't forget to gunzip it properly and remove the underscore). The vmlinux replaces the one in the /mach_servers directory. Please direct feedback for these components to the mklinux-setup mailing list. Thanks once again to Anthony Tong for these new fixes.
